In this blog, I wanted to share a recipe for some healthy sesame chicken I made the other week. I don’t know about you, but I love the taste of sesame chicken. Unfortunately, the sesame chicken you find in restaurants is often heavily fried in some sort of unhealthy oil and coated with who knows what. This recipe is a healthy sesame chicken version and is lighter and pretty easy to make. It uses olive oil, that contains monounsaturated fats (MUFAS), which is much better for you. It also contains fresh ginger and garlic, which are super-foods that contain a variety of medicinal properties and are anti-inflammatory. Give it a try if you like the taste of sesame and are looking for a new recipe to share with your family.

Healthy Sesame Chicken

healthy sesame chicken

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts (cut into 1/2 inch strips)
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 pinch salt & pepper or to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Small bunch onion scallions, chopped
  • Cooked rice for serving (I like to use Jasmine or Basamati rice.)

Sauce

  • 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 Tsp. sriracha or to taste
  • 1 Tsp. fresh ginger grated
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 Tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil

Directions:

In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, sriracha, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds and sesame oil. Set aside.

In a large bowl combine the chicken, cornstarch and salt, pepper and garlic. In a large frying pan, add the olive oil and heat for approximately 2 minutes. Add the chicken and stir-fry for about 5 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown. Add the prepared sauce and allow it to simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the sauce is thick and slightly sticky.

Remove the chicken from the pan and sprinkle with chopped onions, if desired. Sprinkle with more sesame seeds to garnish. Serve alone or with your favorite rice and side salad.

Enjoy!
