Happy Fall!

With cooler temperatures and vibrant, bright colors, fall has definitely arrived. I don’t know about you, but I really like fall. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely will miss the warm days of summer, but there is something about the fall season that warms my heart. After a hot summer, it’s always nice to put on a cozy sweater, go on a walk to take in some fall colors, visit an apple orchard and enjoy the many tastes of fall. You know, peaches, pears, pumpkins…oh my!

There’s always so many good foods to look forward to. It’s funny how our body starts craving certain things. That’s because seasonal foods help us adapt to the cooler temperatures. It’s no wonder we start craving warming foods like stews and soups made with carrots, potatoes and onions. They are are comforting and grounding. Other root vegetables such as beets, radishes, turnips and sweet potatoes are also grounding.

In the fall, we also start craving sweet flavors too like peaches, pears and peppers. And lets not forget pumpkin! Pumpkin itself is not very sweet, but can easily be made into a sweet treat. Many people look forward to a pumpkin latte, pumpkin bread or pumpkin muffins.

Speaking of pumpkin muffins…

I made took care of my pumpkin craving the other by making a delicious batch of them. You can find the recipe in another blog post if you would like to give it a try.

Keep in mind that it is normal to have food cravings this time of year. It is also important to eat with the seasons. Eating seasonally helps your body perform and function better. Fall foods also contain a variety of nutrients your body needs to fight off colds, the flu and other illnesses, which are more prevalent during the winter months. Make sure you stock up plenty of fall fruit, vegetables and spices to keep you healthy all season long.
