I think it’s fair to say that the last number of months have been uncertain. In fact our society has been turned upside down in many ways. Many people have felt fear, loneliness and lost. It is no wonder many people are anxious and restless. The good news is there are ways to stay balanced in uncertain times.
While we can’t control everything that is going on in the world or around us, we can control our thoughts and our behaviors. Often times people get caught up on negative thinking, which can make things worse. Thankfully we all have the ability to change our thoughts and make them positive.
Following are 8 ways to help you stay balanced in uncertain times:
- Just Breathe: Many people when they feel tense or anxious hold their breath, which makes anxiety and tension worse. If you are feeling tense, take a moment to just breathe and check in with your body. Try and sit still and focus on your breathing, while taking deep inhales and exhales. Just focusing on your breath will help you relax and collect yourself.
- Turn on some music: Another way to help you stay balanced is listening to some good music. Whether you like something calming or would rather crank up some good ole rock and roll, music can do wonders for helping you stay balanced and positive. Music naturally helps bring about feel good emotions. It also helps you to switch gears and can trigger a positive swing in mood.
- Prayer: Praying is another way to help calm your thoughts, find stillness and stay balanced. Look for a quiet place where you can be alone and connect with God. Prayer is very powerful and can help ground you and add balance to your day.
- Practice some dance moves: Dancing is another way to make your day better. Like other activities, dancing can help you change your thoughts quickly and what better way to rev up your emotions. Whether you are a polished dancer, or just like to shake things up a bit in your living room, dancing can help you stay balanced no matter what is going on around you.
- Go for a nature walk: Walking is a great way to relieve stress. Walking helps get your blood pumping and can calm your mind and boost your mood. Walking outside is especially beneficial, as the sounds in nature can have a calming affect on your body and can help lift your spirits and soothe your mind. Why not take some time to listen to hear the sounds of the birds, or other animals to help you stay balanced. You can also listen to a running stream or waves from a lake, as you are out walking or hiking on a trail.
- Hug your pet: Many people have pets and it’s amazing how they can play such a big part in a family. Most pets love attention and are more than willing to give it back, so don’t forget to hug your dog or pet and take in their positive vibes.
- Yoga: Practicing yoga is another good way to help you stay balanced. Yoga helps balance your mind, as well as your body. Doing a few stretches or just sitting quietly is another option and can also help calm your thoughts and can help restore peace.
- Stay Connected: Although we hear a lot about social distancing these days, it important to stay connected to others. During challenging times, it is crucial to have family and friends around to stay balanced. We all need others to connect with, laugh with and provide love and support. Make sure you stay in touch others to help you feel balanced.
