In this blog, I wanted to spotlight the health benefits of cherries. Cherries are abundant this time of year and a popular summertime fruit. Many people enjoy cherries because they not only are sweet to eat, but contain many health benefits. Cherries are considered a super food as they are rich in a variety of antioxidants and nutrients. Some nutrients found in cherries include vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, manganese, copper, vitamin K, vitamin B6 and protein. Cherries also contains iron, which is good for blood oxygenation, energy production and helps to maintain a healthy immune system. Like strawberries, cherries are a good source of fiber, so they help aid in the digestion process. Cherries have numerous other health benefits, as well.
Health Benefits Of Cherries
Helps Fight Inflammation
Cherries not only taste great, but they have powerful anti-inflammatory properties that are super beneficial to the body. Cherries are loaded with antioxidants and contain healing properties that help with arthritis, joint pain, gout and more. In fact, studies show that anthocyanins and cyanidin, 2 constituents found in cherries provide strong antioxidant affects that help protect the body. They are also rich in vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as contain polyphenals, which help fight free radicals that can harm the body, cause macular degeneration and more. ¹
Helps Aid In Weight Loss
Cherries are low in calories, yet high in fiber, so they make a good weight loss food. One bowl of cherries contains approximately 100 calories, as well as 3 grams of fiber. That’s good news, as cherries help make you feel full without going overboard on calories. Cherries also help promote good digestion and help create a healthy microbiome.
Helps Promote A Good Night’s Sleep
Cherries also help promote a good night’s sleep. That’s because cherries contain a natural source of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate your sleep cycle and promotes restful sleep. Try drinking cherry juice or eating a bowl full of cherries before bed to help you sleep better.
Cherries Make A Great Snack Food And More
Cherries make a great snack and a sweet treat to enjoy any time of the the day. They can also be added to salads, smoothies, oatmeal, desserts and more.
