These days we are hearing more and more about health whether we want to or not. It’s in the news, on social media and everyone seems to be talking about it where ever you go. In fact, it’s hard to get away from all of the media and people seemed to be consumed by it. As a health coach, normally I would be ecstatic hearing everyone talking about health, but frankly I’ve had enough. Don’t get me wrong. I love to talk about health and do so pretty much every day, whether it’s with my family, friends, a client or posting a blog or some type of social media on the subject. That’s because I am passionate about helping people get healthy and stay healthy!
Unfortunately, most of what we are hearing about health today is fear based. While I do not want to dismiss what is going on and the severity of some circumstances, it is important not to go into panic mode. Instead of tuning into all the bad news on TV, social media and online, we all need to change our focus, as it’s creating unnecessary fear, hoarding and some crazy thinking.
Get Busy And Get Healthy
It is understandable that people are concerned, but the good news is we can all do something to help prevent illness. Dale Carnegie had it right when he said, “Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” So forget all the media hype. Yes–it is important to get the facts from a reliable source, but don’t let that be the center of your attention and certainly you shouldn’t be worrying about toilet paper or stocking your household with unnecessary items. There are plenty of things you can get busy at to stay healthy and build immunity.
9 Ways To Build Health And Immunity
Eat More Whole Foods
Many people eat too many processed foods and sugary snacks, which can cause weight gain and make you sick. Instead of stocking up on paper goods, which are readily available, why not stock your refrigerator and pantry with plenty of whole foods? Just don’t go overboard. There is a generous supply and fresh food tends to spoil faster.
Many people today live on fast-food and processed foods, which don’t provide the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function optimally. Although processed foods may contain some nutrients your body needs, they definitely don’t contain the same amount, or the quality provided by whole foods. Whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds and meat provide important nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Many processed foods on the other hand often contain artificial ingredients, chemicals and preservatives that are hard on your body and can contribute to sickness and ill health. Fortunately, we can all make better choices, to stay healthy.
Eat More Vegetables
One of the best things you can do to avoid getting sick is to eat more vegetables. Vegetables provide vital nutrients your body needs and craves and you can’t get from other sources. Try adding more vegetables to your breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also eat vegetables as a healthy snack, instead of munching on a bag chips or some other type of junk food.
Eat More Fruit
Another way to promote health and boost your immune system is to add more fruit to your diet. Many fruits are rich in vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. Citrus fruit is especially beneficial for promoting immunity, as it is rich in vitamin C.
Make More Home Cooked Meals
Instead of opting to go out to eat, why not try making more home-cooked meals to help add more whole foods in your diet? Look for recipes that include plenty of vegetables, whole grains, spices or meat.
Get Moving
Your body was meant to move. Unfortunately, our society today has become more sedentary than past generations. Many people have desk jobs and sit in front of a computer all day, which often leaves your body cramped and stiff. Why not go for a walk after work and stretch your legs? The fresh air might be just what your body needs to feel balanced and alive. You can also find a yoga class on You Tube or something else to help keep your body healthy.
Wash Your Hands
